Open Call: Battery-Backed Charging

ProspectSV is excited to announce our Open Call for Battery-Backed Charging Technology on behalf of the City of Fremont. This Open Call will connect select startups with the City of Fremont to explore potential partnerships with alternative charging strategies.

Applications close November 30 at 11:59pm (PDT)

In partnership with the City of Fremont

Whats going on?

The City of Fremont is undergoing a comprehensive effort to upgrade its fleet to electric vehicles (EVs). As the City proceeds, the challenge of providing charging infrastructure is front and center. Like many cities, Fremont’s fleet facilities may not have the capacity to fully support their charging needs as they scale EV fleets across departments. This Open Call is seeking alternative solutions to conventional charging strategies.

The City of Fremont fleet vehicles are housed at four (4) facilities and primarily consists of the following vehicle types:

  • 236 Sedans/SUV/Minivans

  • 133 Cargo Vans/Light Duty Trucks

  • 18 Motorcycles

  • 78 Heavy Duty Trucks (Trucks/Sweepers/Construction)

Use Case

The City of Fremont wants to explore the use of battery backed or battery boosted charging solutions to enable fast charging for multiple vehicles. This solution must be independent of its current electrical infrastructure. It must also scale in charging capacity without necessarily upgrading its facility.

Although charging times may vary significantly, assume that some cars and medium-duty trucks, such as police patrol vehicles and maintenance street sweepers,  may need to be charged in 2 to 4 hours between deployments. Battery SOC must be a minimum of 50% to be considered in service. At scale, the charging system may need to accommodate up to 50 EVs. Vehicles may be driven up to 100 miles per shift use.

What We Need

The City is seeking battery-backed, independent charging systems as an alternative to conventional charging stations. This type of solution would enable cost-effective charging of its fleet vehicles without unduly impacting capacity at a facility. Fremont also recognizes the need for greater data visibility, and wants to see data dashboard functionality that assists their operations.

This Open Call will run until the end of November. Responsive applications will be reviewed immediately by ProspectSV and the City of Fremont in the order they are received.

By completing this application you will also join ProspectSV’s ecosystem where we bring together government, policymakers, expert researchers and advisors, innovative solution providers, and investors.
